Letter from PTF Sept 2009
Dear Legacy Parent,
Welcome to a new school year at Legacy! Whether you are a returning or a new family, I’d like to bring your attention to the wonderful role that families play at making Legacy Christian School such a success.
Firstly, as a Legacy Parent, you are a member of CLEA, the group that governs the school and gives it its direction. If you wish to participate in the nuts and bolts of the school’s internal workings, I encourage you to attend CLEA’s monthly board meetings. Attending a CLEA board meeting is an easy way to show support for your school, as well as your child’s overall education.
Secondly, as a Legacy Parent, you are also a member of the Parent-Teacher Fellowship, an organization akin to public school’s Parent-Teacher Organizations (PTO’s). The mission of the Parent-Teacher Fellowship (PTF) is to provide cooperation, fellowship and financial assistance to the entire Legacy Christian School community.
Like CLEA, the PTF is managed by a volunteer board. Currently, this board consists of four members: President (myself), Vice-President, Gil DeLaHunt, Treasurer, Deanna Moss, and Secretary, Christie Mumm. Events and programs run by the PTF are managed by Chairs and Co-Chairs. One vital program is Fundraising, a role that is normally shared by two Co-Chairs. One Fundraising Co-Chair is Kristen Ashworth; the other Co-Chair … needs a volunteer! This brings me to Legacy’s Parent Participation Program (P3): -
P3 is a compulsory program requiring each Legacy family to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours of time at the school (10 hours for a single-parent family). The 20 hours must be completed between the first day and the last day of school. If the minimum is not fulfilled, the school will bill you $10.00 per hour up to the required hour amount. This program is per family, not student.
The P3 program was instituted by CLEA over four years ago; PTF serves as the means by which parents can find volunteer opportunities. All hours must be recorded in the P3 Log Book, located in the school office. If hours are not recorded, they can not be counted.
Finally, I’d like to encourage you to attend Back-to-School Night, Friday, September 11th, at 6:30 pm. Back-to-School Night will provide you with an opportunity to see where you can best lend your efforts to this fantastic school! You can meet both PTF board members and CLEA board members, ask questions, talk to a teacher, have some refreshments, see some old friends, and make some new ones. It’ll be great!
Best Wishes,
Cassandra Grieve
PTF President
